May 28, 2009 - U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown visits SWACO's Green Energy Center, to announce new national legislation that would expand the use of municipal solid waste as a source of clean energy.
The Rubbish to Renewables Act of 2009, which Brown announced today, would create jobs and increase demand for clean energy technology. Brown was joined at the Green Energy Center by Ron Mills, Executive Director of SWACO; Paula Brooks, Franklin County Commissioner; Sam Spofforth, Executive Director, Clean Fuels Ohio; and representatives from Acrion Technologies, developer of the technology, and Guild Associates, manufacturer of the technology.

SEPT. 15, 2008- Acrion's partner FirmGreen, Inc. (FGI) announces the opening of a Green Energy Center (GEC), near Columbus, Ohio. In a public-private partnership with the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) , FirmGreen built the landfill gas processing facility and fueling station that dispenses compressed natural gas (CNG) processed from landfill gas. The facility collects and cleans raw landfill gas using Acrion’s patented technology CO2 Wash ®. The cleaned methane is then converted into ‘green’ compressed natural gas (gCNG™) for use in CNG powered cars and medium duty trucks. gCNG™ is FirmGreen’s trademarked brand name for Compressed Natural Gas from renewable recourses such as landfill gas and biomass. ..more
